38th Annual Marvin C. Goldstein Lecture Series--The Wonderful World of Endodontics: "The Magic Kingdom Before Your Very Eyes"

In the next five years, the way we perform, experience, and deliver endodontic treatment will drastically change. The purpose of this lecture program is to improve our clinical skills from the point of diagnosis, treatment planning, and endodontic therapy (including emergency care), ending with post-endodontic treatment of teeth in preparation for definitive restorations to follow. Increasing confidence, enjoyment, and added profitability that comes from improved skills that are driven by time-tested biologic principles are the ultimate goals and intent of this exciting program.

Speaker Information
John West, DDS, MSD, as the founder and director of the Center for Endodontics, British-born Dr. John West continues to be recognized as one of world’s premier educators in clinical and interdisciplinary endodontics. John West received his DDS from the University of Washington in 1971 where he is an Affiliate Associate Professor. He then earned his MSD in Endodontics at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1975, where he is a clinical instructor and has been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. West has presented unrivaled endodontic continuing education in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia while maintaining a private practice in Tacoma, Washington. John is a clinical visionary, an inventor, a teacher, and an advocate for any dentist that wants to experience the successful possibilities of endodontics in his or her practice. He has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters related to endondontics, and is lead author of Esthetic Management of Endodontically Treated Teeth in Dr. Ronald Goldstein’s 2015 third edition of Esthetics in Dentistry. Dr. West is active in numerous national and international organizations, was a 2010 consultant for the ADA Board of Trustees, and is a consultant to the ADA Council on Dental Practice. Dr. West further serves on the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s Boston University Alumni Board. He is a Thought Leader for Carestream Digital Dental Systems, serves on numerous journal advisory boards, and is an associate editor for Endodontic Practice/US.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this program, participants should be able to:
  • Unravel the toothache headache, is it endodontic in origin?;
  • Have a better understanding of when to restore versus remove the endodontically diseased tooth;
  • Recognize more complex endodontic scenarios and when it may be best to refer;
  • Determine when conventional 2D radiography is sufficient versus when it is advisable to recommend a 3D scan (i.e. Cone Beam CT, CBCT);
  • Determine when a radicular post is indicated prior to definitive restoration, and how to communicate the desired post space to the treating endodontist;
  • Design successful endodontic access openings for easy root canal system preparations;
  • Prepare a Glidepath for safe and predictable endodontic canal shaping, and understand how Gold technology has revolutionized NiTi endodontic files; 
  • Immediately apply and implement the wonderful world of endodontics to grow one’s practice.
